Mabel's Mrs. Merritt selected to compete in 30 Second Book Talk Challenge
Voting has begun in the 2017 30 Second Book Talk Challenge, a Twitter competition that tasks teachers with recording a thirty second video in which they talk about their favorite children's book as part of an effort to promote literacy. Mabel School third-grade teacher Mrs. Bronwyn Merritt has been selected to participate in the challenge with her book talk on the classic James and the Giant Peach.
Mabel's Instructional Technology Facilitator John Downs, who helped record and promote the effort, said participating in the 30 second book challenge was an opportunity to promote literacy by getting students and community members involved in the voting process.
Having been selected, Mrs. Merritt book talk will now compete for votes against similar videos made by other educators across the country with the ultimate goal of exposing as many students as possible to adults talking about books they love to read.
